A little bit about Us – Garrey and Karen Haase
About Us
After taking over the ‘Michael James’ opticians on Goole’s Boothferry Road in 2005, Karen and Garrey had a very clear vision of the independent practice they wanted to run. In November 2014 the new Howden practice was opened followed by the Knaresborough practice in February 2015.
Put simply, they aim to offer a friendly, welcoming environment supported by professional patient care and exceptional levels of service at great value.

With over 50 years of optical experience between them, working in the independent optical market, you can be sure of professional advice and guidance.
Garrey qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 1996 then studied at Bradford University to gain his qualification as an Optometrist in 2001. Karen qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 1999. She has gone on to develop a niche for seeing the right frame for the right face and has developed a Bridal Eyewear specialist side to the business. Karen now has brides from all over the UK and abroad, consulting with her about the ideal glasses for their special day.

Yorkshire Eyewear’s top priority has always been the thorough care of their clients’ eyes and they have invested in making sure their staff are trained to the highest standards and have the same commitment to quality and passion about service that they do.

They have also equipped their consulting rooms with state-of-the-art equipment – they were the first opticians in the area to have a Topcon 2000 OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) machine, which is available at the Howden practice. This enables the accurate assessment and early diagnosis of many ocular conditions, including Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration. They have invested in an OCT machine for the Knaresborough practice.

Karen's latest venture...
After many years of seeing the right frame for the right face, Karen took time out from the practice two years ago to pursue her passion of writing. 85,000 words later, Karen and her writing partner Julie Martin-Jones are delighted with the publication of their first book ‘Over The Fence’.
The book is sold worldwide, and is available on Amazon, Waterstones, TJ Jones, both of our practices and a plethora of other great book shops!
