Myopia Management

If somebody is myopic, it means that they are short sighted and cannot see objects in the distance clearly.

We place great importance on myopia management, and with the latest technology in specialised lenses we can slow down the rate of change in vision.

This is fundamental as studies show that having myopia increases risk of developing sight threatening conditions later in life.

At Yorkshire Eyewear, we offer what we believe to be the highest standard of myopia management - with axial length measurements every visit, and a cycloplegic autorefraction at least once a year.

Risk Factors of Myopia

Refractive Error

+0.75 or less at age 6-7 years indicates higher risk in the future.

Ethnicity

Individuals of East Asian descent are at higher risk

Age

Children under age 9 have a faster progression.

Genetics

If one or both parents are myopic there is a higher risk

Lifestyle Factors

Increased close vision tasks without frequent breaks and spending less than 1.5 hours per day outdoors increases myopia risk

Why Choose Us?

Yorkshire Eyewear provides expert myopia management tailored to your child’s needs.

Clinical Tests

Our plan includes regular eye examinations, with axial length measurements taken at every visit. According to the College of Optometrists, the only way to truly measure the effectiveness of the myopia treatment is to measure the axial length. Your child will also have a cycloplegic autorefraction at least once a year.
